RED HILL BASKETBALL CLUB

Policy and Guidelines

 

 

Red Hill Basketball Clubs exists to facilitate players of all ages to learn, develop and enjoy basketball at a domestic level. RHBC core values are to promote participation, encourage all players to have fun, and effectively communicate with players, parents, coaches and the community

A Strong emphasis is placed on participation for anyone who wishes to play basketball and RHBC would hope and encourage players and parents to commit to the club for the whole of their domestic basketball career.

We aim to provide a friendly, inclusive and fun environment for all our members on and off the basketball court.

While utilizing many of the facilities of the Red Hill Consolidated School for training purposes, the RHBC is NOT directly associated with the school. We are an independent club that operates within the Southern Peninsular Basketball Association (SPBA)

1. GuidelineforMembers

  1. 1.1.  RHBC exists to support the playing and enjoyment of domestic basketball

  2. 1.2.  The club values participation, enjoyment, team development and healthy competition. We do not promote a ‘win at all costs’ attitude, but we encourage players and teams to show good sportsmanship and for them to achieve their best.

  3. 1.3.  RHBC does NOT measure success by on-court results, but rather by the feel and atmosphere of the club.

  4. 1.4.  Players are registered with SPBA, RHBC facilities this under the Red Hill Banner. All RHBC players and coaches have insurance covered through their registration.

  5. 1.5.  All coaches and team managers MUST have a current ‘Working with Children’s’ Card (WWC)

  6. 1.6.  SPBA has a well publicised code of conduct for players and coaches (can be found on their website) RHBC supports this code of conduct and SPBA’s role in upholding it.

2. GuidelineforTeams

  1. 2.1.  Teams are formed when the number of interested players reaches a critical mass of between 6 and 8.

  2. 2.2.  RHBC reserve the rights to make the final decision on team selection, this will be done in conjunction with team coaches, managers and parents

  3. 2.3.  In an effort to encourage ongoing participation from an early age the club will support the reorganisation of teams to an even standard.

  4. 2.4.  Occasionally, the number of kids wanting plat at a certain group gets too large for one team. If there is not enough for two teams a waiting list is created and a recruitment drive occurs.

  5. 2.5.  Teams only exist with the support of parents who are prepared to coach and manage teams. We encourage parents to get involved! RHBC will endeavour (with the help of SPBA) to regularly run clinics to help coaches.

  6. 2.6.  Coaches and team mangers need everybody’s support. They have put themselves forward to play an important role, please ensure all parents support and help out where needed.

  7. 2.7.  The RHBC trains at the Red Hill Consolidated School and has agreed to adhere to the following:

    • -  Building and Grounds Policy

    • -  Hire of Facilities Policy

  8. 2.8.  Training is conducted on the understanding that the club/coach/assistants take no responsibility for the supervision of kids that are participating or for siblings that are in attendance during training. Parents are responsible for their kids before, during and after training. Parents or another arranged parent must be in attendance at all times to be responsible for their child.

3. GuidelineforCoaches

  1. 3.1.  Remember that basketball is for enjoyment

  2. 3.2.  Be reasonable in your demands

  3. 3.3.  Teach understand and respect for the rules , opponents, officials and an acceptance of their judgement and calls.

  4. 3.4.  Ensure that equipment and facilities meet safety standards and are appropriate to the age and ability of the platers

  5. 3.5.  Be prepared to Lose

  1. 3.6.  Act responsibly when players are ill or injured

  2. 3.7.  Ensure that any physical contact with the player is appropriate. Respect the rights, dignity and worth of every person

  3. 3.8.  Encourage fair and equal participation of all players

  4. 3.9.  Organise and oversee training of teams where time and facilities permit. Coaches/Team managers must request a time/venue from RHBC

  5. 3.10.  Inform all parents if training is not to take place

  6. 3.11.  Reiterate to parents, as necessary, their responsibilities. Any issues of concern can be and should be referred to the Committee for resolution

4. GuidelinesforTeamManagers

  1. 4.1.  Make sure all parents know where to access team fixtures

  2. 4.2.  Advise parents of game fixture changes and forfeits

  3. 4.3.  Ensure all players are registered (on-line) for the season and collect game day match fee’s

  4. 4.4.  Assist coaches during matches as required

  5. 4.5.  Arrange representative from team to score each game (each manager is encourage to do a weekly scoring roster)

  6. 4.6.  Ensure all players have correct uniforms

    • -  All uniforms need to be matching including tops and shorts

    • -  No pockets, no tee shirts, no leggings, etc as per SPBA regulations

      5. GuidelineforParents

  1. 5.1.  Encourage children to always play by the rules

  2. 5.2.  Teach children that an honest effort is always an important as a victory

  3. 5.3.  Focus on developing skills and playing the game

  4. 5.4.  Accept decision of ALL referees

  5. 5.5.  Set a good example by your own conduct, behaviour and appearance. Support all efforts to remove verbal and physical abuse from sporting activities

  6. 5.6.  Show appreciation for volunteer coaches, officials and administrators

  7. 5.7.  Ensure players attend training sessions, arrive to games well prior to the start of each game and pay match fee to manager in a timely manner

  8. 5.8.  Inform team manager / coach of a player’s absence

  9. 5.9.  Take your turn to score during games

6. RedHillBasketballClub(RHBC)Committee Office Bearers of Red Hill Basketball Club:

  • -  President

  • -  Vice President

  • -  Treasurer

  • -  Club Secretary

  • -  Team Coordinator (Boys)

  • -  Team Coordinator (Girls)

  • -  General Members

  1. 6.1.  The office Bearers of the committee of management (COM) shall be elected for 1 year terms and shall continue to hold office until their successors have been duly elected at the AGM

  2. 6.2.  The COM may immediately fill any vacancy that occurs.

  3. 6.3.  Role of the committee is as follows:

    • -  To promote, develop and encourage participation in basketball

    • -  To provide a recreational atmosphere that encouraging, enjoyable, efficient and effective

    • -  To administer the RHBC so that it meets the needs of both current and future generations

    • -  To ensure the RHBC policies and guidelines are implemented in the spirit of the club

    • -  To promote and secure sponsorship and fundraising and ensure the funds are handled and spent with care.

      7. DisputeResolution–DisciplinePolicy

      RHBC is committed to developing and maintaining and effective dispute resolution and discipline policy. The club will aim to;

  • -  Ensure that any disputes are resolved promptly, objectively and with sensitivity

  • -  Set up a dispute resolution process that is members focussed and helps to address their concerns

  • -  Ensure consistency in the response to any disputes or complaints

    The parties to the dispute must meet and discuss the matter in dispute and, if possible, resolve the dispute within 14 days after the dispute comes to the attention of all parties

A RHBC committee representative may assist with the organisation of the initial meeting between the two parties to act as mediator for both parties, should the members agree.

If the dispute is not resolved then the RHBC committee representative will arrange formal mediation with the support from SPBA and Basketball Victoria

8. PrivacyPolicy

RHBC Privacy Policy Statement

The information below pertains to the collection and storage of any personal information you may be required to provide to the club

In line with privacy requirements as outlined by law, RHBC gives the following assurances in regards to your personal information:

8.1. Collecting Person Information

RHBC has undertaken to comply with the requirements of the Privacy Act, 1988 and the National Privacy Principles included in the Privacy Act (Private Sector) Amended Act 2000

Personal Information is collected by RHBC for the primary purpose of membership requirements and/or competition purposes. RHBC collects detail such as your name, address, telephone, email address, gender and age.

8.2. Failure to provide required personal information

Failure to provide the information required for the purposes detailed may mean RHBC is unable to complete your membership application

8.3. Disclosure of personal information

Your personal information will only be used or disclosed by RHBC to complete membership applications and for club related communications

9. WorkingwithChildrenChecks(WWC)

The Victorian Government has legislated that persons who work with children must undergo checks on their criminal records. Persons who have a conviction for a relevant criminal offence will be prohibited from working with children

The working with Children Act requires all persons working with children to have the check if they have or are likely to have individual and unsupervised contact with children, including coaches and team managers.

All committee members are also required to have screened, whether or not they have individual and unsupervised contact with children. Persons under 18 are not required to be screened.

Applying for working with children checks is relatively easy and free for volunteers. It is similar to applying for a passport and you will need a passport type photo and

appropriate identifications similar to opening a new bank account. Forms and an information pack may be obtained on-line or at your local Post office.
